Gloria's Safe Haven

“The meaning of the Safe Haven has grown over time. It’s a refuge, it’s a place of like-minded family. It’s a place to save yourself from a lot of the downfall that can happen when you’re living in your truth as a trans woman. Even though it’s not forever, it feels like a forever home.” - Gloria's Safe Haven Resident

Gloria’s Safe Haven is our free, safe, and affirming emergency supportive housing program for trans people in Birmingham, Alabama. In a region where trans affirmative housing is rare, we provide a vital lifeline—offering not just shelter, but dignity, care, and community.

We currently offer 15 beds in a co-ed setting. Whether you’re in need of housing or looking to support this critical work, Gloria’s Safe Haven is here to create safety and belonging in the South.

We are currently fundraising to build a permanent facility designed specifically for the needs of our community. This new facility will be a permanent home for Gloria's Safe Haven emergency shelter, and will also offer transitional and supportive housing units offered for rent on a sliding scale. Support us today in securing affordable, safe, housing for Black trans folks in Alabama for years to come.
